Lehman Lobo Wrestling Family:
Hope everyone is off to a great start for the 2022-2023 school year! I apologize that I have not introduced myself sooner but I have been tied up with the beginning of the school year and football. I can’t tell you how excited I am about joining the wrestling program here at Lehman as the Head Wrestling Coach! Wrestling has been a big part of my family’s life both as a competitor and coach. I don’t have to tell you but it is a great sport that plays a huge role in building the important values of character, accountability, self-discipline, and team work.
My background with the sport is as a competitor at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, IL which is a southwest suburb of Chicago, IL. The program has a rich history with producing multiple state individual champions and placers and 10 state team championships. Throughout my career in education and coaching I have six years of successful varsity coaching experiences at Oak Lawn High School in Oak Lawn, IL., Alan B. Shepard High School in Palos Heights, IL. and most recently at Westlake High School here in Austin, TX. We will also have one of our varsity football coaches, Coach Anthony Gatzert, working with our wrestlers as well this year. Coach Gatzert has had successful stops at various Central Texas high schools and currently coaches our varsity defensive linemen.
In terms of the 2022-2023 start date for practice we are looking at Monday, November 7th with the time to be determined. We will have a wrestling meeting with all those interested joining in late October so be on the lookout at that time for an announcement through SportsYou and school announcements for time and location. I am also currently finalizing our upcoming varsity and junior varsity schedule and as of right now we are set for Junior Varsity and Varsity tournaments at Capital Classic at Bowie High School; Rough Rider Invitational at Roosevelt High School in San Antonio; Douglas MacArthur Winter Classic in San Antonio, and the Annual Mabry Scramble at Canyon High School. We will have our district tri dual in January with Hays and Johnson as well as the state series come late January and February. I am currently working on scheduling some tri-duals with other area high schools and will have that schedule out for our pre-season team meeting in late October.
Finally, in regards to a pre-season for those wrestlers not currently involved in a fall sport I strongly encourage putting in the work outside of school by putting in some “road work” by running daily to increase cardio conditioning and getting together with some returning teammates to workout.
Once again, we are excited to be a Lobo! Be on the lookout for continued announcements and the season will be here before you know it! It’s Always Great Day To Be A Lobo!
